Dr Garry Landreth, LPC, RPT-S

Garry L. Landreth, LPC, RPT-S, internationally known for his writings and work in promoting the development of child-centered play therapy, is a Regents Professor in the Department of Counseling at the University of North Texas. He is the founder of the Center for Play Therapy, the largest play therapy training program in the country. Dr. Landreth is a frequent speaker at play therapy conferences around the world. His more than 150 journal articles, books and videos include his award-winning book Play Therapy: The Art of the Relationship, which has been translated into several languages. His latest books are Child Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT): A 10-Session Filial Therapy Model and an accompanying Child Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT) Treatment Manual. Dr. Landreth is Director Emeritus of the Association for Play Therapy and received the APT Lifetime Achievement Award and Research in Play Therapy Award.

Dr Virginia Ryan

Virginia RyanVirginia Ryan, PhD, is a Chartered Child Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and a qualified Play Therapist and Play Therapy Supervisor with the British Association of Play Therapists. She also is a Certified Filial Therapy Instructor with the Family Enhancement and Play Therapy Center, Boiling Springs, PA, USA. Virginia’s original training was completed in the US, at the University of Minnesota (BA, summa cum laude, Psychology) and at the University of Texas at Austin (PhD, Educational Psychology) before she moved to the UK over thirty years ago.

Virginia’s part time clinical practice is Ryan Children’s Services in Hull, East Yorkshire, UK. Virginia’s therapeutic approach is based on non-directive/child centered play therapy, which helps children and teens find their own creative, personalised solutions for their problems. She brings her long standing experience in the UK as a therapist and Expert Witness for the Courts in child and family proceedings to a wide range of difficulties, including statutory work, attachment-related problems, trauma, developmental delays and disabilities.

Virginia also works part time at the University of York, UK. She is a Senior Lecturer and the Director of the MA/Diploma in Non-directive Play Therapy, which leads to a professional qualification as a play therapist with BAPT.
